From 2021
Leading the industry into the future
Wind energy currently accounts for less than two percent of the world’s energy production. Vestas expects it to account for 10 percent by 2020.
To achieve this, the industry must increase wind energy production by 900,000 MW worldwide. At Vestas, we know this can be done. Wind energy can supply local energy anywhere there is ample wind, and it can create thousands of jobs. Many national and regional governments are setting clear, long-term renewable energy targets.
2021 Vestas and MHI
Vestas and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) have closed the partnership agreement.
2023 Vestas 125th Anniversary
125 years ago, the company, that would later be named Vestas, first saw the light of day. This was way before anyone had ever heard of sustainable energy solutions or even wind turbines, but from day 1, our reason for being has been to innovate, and improve the lives of people and the world we live in.
Fast forward to today, we continue to build on this spirit, and now, focus on accelerating the #energytransition.
2024 Thyborøn Community Engagement
Backed by wide local support, the V236-15.0 MW commercial test turbine towers high above the port of Thyborøn. In close collaboration with Vestas, the local wind turbine co-operative has funded the turbine and installed it in record time due to a quick and smooth permitting process from the municipality. The team has actively engaged the wider community through citizen meetings and ongoing information campaigns, this has resulted in the project being well received and has been met with no official complaints during the permitting process.
2025 Installation of first commercial V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbine
In collaboration with EnBW, we have completed the installation of the first turbine at the 'EnBW He Dreiht' project off the coast of Germany. This milestone comes as we ramp-up the deliveries of our flagship offshore technology.
He Dreiht, with a capacity of 960 MW and 64 offshore turbines, is one of Europe’s largest offshore wind farms. Once connected to the grid, it will generate clean electricity for 1.1 million European households.
