Brazil
Babilônia Centro and Serra do Tigre, Brazil
Built in partnership with Casa dos Ventos, our 1.3-gigawatt wind projects at the Serra do Tigre and Babilônia Centro sites are among the largest onshore projects in Vestas’ history.
Bringing a project of gigawatt size and scale to life takes collective effort. It requires trust and strong partnerships across the supply chain, where all parts must work together to bring this to life.
The collaboration between Vestas and Casa dos Ventos reflects a shared vision and unwavering commitment to establishing Brazil as a leader in renewable energy for the region through high-impact projects and leading energy solutions.
Facts about the project
*Values have been calculated according to Vestas ISO LCA public results, as well as considering average factors for global emissions for electricity generation, and household consumption.
Technology
Our commitment to technology is key to delivering scalable, reliable and sustainable solutions. 291 Vestas V163 and V150 turbines will be installed at the Casa dos Ventos project, set to generate over 1.3GW of clean renewable energy for Brazil. In order to pull off a project of this scale, factors such as climatic conditions, optimal turbine mix, and varied hub heights must be thoroughly analysed and discussed with the customer to ensure maximum capacity and long-term value.
With Brazil boasting the world's highest wind capacity factor, the country’s wind resources are increasingly recognised as one of its most valuable resources. Vestas leverages its industry-leading turbines and global expertise to provide customised solutions uniquely suited to Brazil's conditions.
Partnership
Our partnership with Casa dos Ventos underscores our commitment to speeding up Brazil’s clean energy transition. Successfully delivering this 1.3-gigawatt landmark project demands meticulous planning with the customer, as well as coordination with over 100 suppliers, ensuring seamless integration across the value chain.
The partnership between our two companies, established over five years ago, has positioned Casa dos Ventos as the largest customer of Vestas in Latin America.
CSR and Sustainability
For the Casa dos Ventos project, we’re focusing on three key areas:
- Enhancing skills and employability through entrepreneurship and income generation programmes
- Advancing education by incorporating wind energy content into primary schools and partnering with educational associations to develop local talent
- Promoting wellbeing through community engagement initiatives such as waste collection schemes and public space revitalisation.
Project Execution
Vestas has decades of experience executing projects in remote and challenging locations. The Casa dos Ventos project involves transporting 291 turbines, along with nearly 3,000 components, over vast distances from the factory to the site, navigating difficult road conditions. Successfully managing this requires extensive planning and coordination.
