Vestas becomes the first company to install 200 GW of wind turbines globally

200 GW milestone reached

In mid-December 2025, Vestas reached 200 GW of installed wind turbines globally with the installation of a V172-7.2 MW turbine at German energy investor and developer ENOVA’s 65 MW Meppen repowering project in Germany.

Achieving 200 GW of installed wind turbines is both a testament to Vestas’ leading position within wind energy solutions and the scale at which renewables is growing in the global energy system.

Vestas was also the first to reach 100 GW of installed wind turbines in 2018. A milestone that was four decades in the making, and in contrast the subsequent 100 GW have been installed in less than seven years, underlining wind energy’s competitiveness, scale and fast deployment.

Wind energy is secure, affordable and sustainable

Wind energy is secure, affordable, and sustainable, and we are the first to have installed 200 GW of it worldwide. For almost 50 years, we have delivered what people have asked for: energy you can count on, energy that helps stabilise prices and reduces our impact on the environment. That need is only growing. Alongside our partners, we will keep delivering the wind energy the world needs.

With 200 GW installed across 88 countries on six continents, Vestas helps boost local job creation and power communities all around the world.

A comment from our CEO Henrik Andersen

“Installing 200 GW of wind energy together with our customers and partners is something we are extremely proud of as it underlines how Vestas is leading the wind industry in scaling to meet the world’s growing need for secure, affordable, and sustainable energy. The trust, collaboration, and ambition of our partners made it possible.

Reaching this milestone is the result of strong innovation, commitment, and execution from all Vestas employees, and it reflects how we will keep driving the energy transition while creating value for our customers and communities worldwide"

What 200 GW means around the world

Based on ≈ 607 TWh/year generated at Vestas average capacity factor. *Annual electricity demand (EIA + Quebec Hydro): Quebec ≈ 200 TWh, New York ≈ 145 TWh, Florida ≈ 240 TWh. *Annual electricity demand (EIA + CAMMESA + CNE + COES): Brazil ≈ 570 TWh, Ecuador ≈ 30 TWH. *Annual electricity demand (Ember - European Electricity Review 2024): Germany≈ 515 TWh, Switzerland ≈ 60 TWh, Denmark≈ 35TWh. *Annual electricity demand (AEMO, EVN, EMA and MBIE): Vietnam≈ 250TWh, Australia≈ 265 TWh, New Zealand≈ 45TWh. *Annual electricity demand (Ember - European Electricity Review 2024): Spain ≈ 256TWh, Italy≈ 315 TWh.

Global landmark projects that made this milestone possible

South America

We have been advancing the Serra do Tigre and Babilônia Centro projects in Brazil, totalling 1.3 GW of capacity.

North America

SunZia, the largest clean energy infrastructure project in U.S. history, is well underway.

Europe

We are advancing the He Dreiht and Baltic Power offshore giga-projects in the North and Baltic seas and preparing to deliver the wind part of the Tâmega hydro-wind project in Portugal.

Australia

We are building 1.3 GW Golden Plains, which is set to be the largest wind energy project in the Southern Hemisphere.
