Vestas secures 100 MW order in Argentina

Vestas has received a firm and unconditional order from Parque Eólico de Bicentenario, a subsidiary of Petroquímica Comodoro Rivadavia S.A. (PCR), a national company specialised in cement and petrochemical markets, to supply and install 28 V117-3.45 MW turbines in the Province of Santa Cruz, Argentina. The turbines will be delivered in 3.6 MW Power Optimised Mode, equalling 100 MW in total.  

The order includes the supply and installation of the wind turbines as well as a 10-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM500) service agreement to maximise power production at all times. Turbine delivery is planned for the fourth quarter of 2017 whilst installation is expected for the third quarter of 2018.  

Martin Brandi, President of PCR said: “By entering the wind market, we will diversify our operations whilst contributing to the greater good, which is reaching Argentina’s renewable energy targets. The RenovAr programme was the perfect framework to turn this project into something real and the partnership with Vestas was key to provide a solid case for our investors to ensure our business case”  

With this new order, Vestas consolidates its leading position in the Argentinian market: “In just six months, we have signed about 500 MW in the country, which clearly underlines our customers’ trust and confidence in our products, our experience and our team. Almost half of that comes from the RenovAr auction, showcasing our strengths when it comes to auctions”, says Marco Graziano, President of Vestas Mediterranean.   

Argentina’s Renewable Energy Law aims to reach 20 percent renewable energy by the end of 2025. Since 2016, the country has doubled its efforts to develop its wind energy industry and Vestas has played a key role in this transition.
