MHI Vestas Installs Final Turbine at Borkum Riffgrund 2 in Germany

Aarhus, September 3, 2018

Major milestone reached Friday in the company’s first German offshore wind project.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is celebrating the successful installation of the 56th and final turbine today at Borkum Riffgrund 2, 57 km off the northwest coast of Germany.

The installation, which was completed ahead of schedule, marks a significant milestone for the Danish-Japanese joint venture as it brings the V164-8.0 MW turbine, the world’s most powerful commercial turbine platform, to the German offshore wind market.

“With the last V164-8.0 MW turbine now installed at Borkum Riffgrund 2, we look forward to the commissioning phase and to the future of offshore wind energy in Germany,” said MHI Vestas Chief Operations Officer, Flemming Ougaard. “In partnership with Ørsted, we are proud to contribute to the clean energy transition, with 56 MHI Vestas turbines powering more than 460,000 German households.”

Earlier in May, MHI Vestas also marked another major milestone during installation at Borkum Riffgrund 2, as turbine #11 out of 56 was noted as the 100th V164 turbine to be installed worldwide.
