As renewables are quickly becoming a critical component of the global energy system, it is increasingly important to ensure stable and reliable energy supply from wind turbines. Ensuring consistent renewable energy production requires advanced service solutions that enable wind turbines to run efficiently throughout their entire lifecycle.

Wind turbine owners all over the world are increasingly looking towards service providers that can support them in all aspects of service across all their turbine brands. As the world’s largest wind service solutions provider, Vestas maintains and supports the biggest wind turbine fleets in the world for the largest turbine platforms. By servicing multiple turbine brands, we offer our customers a one-stop shop for service, maintenance and repair of their entire fleet.

One of our core multibrand service offerings lies in providing parts and repair services for customers outside of full-scope maintenance contracts. By leveraging our industry-leading parts and repair capabilities, we support our customers all over the world in ensuring the continued operations of their fleet – regardless of turbine brand. See a few recent examples below.

Enel Green Power: global multibrand tender

Enel Green Power launched a global service tender for five turbine brands across ten countries, encompassing up to 4,300 wind turbines, 92 different gearbox models and 74 generator models. Vestas was awarded approximately 23 percent of the tender for three years, covering 19 multibrand gearbox models in turbines manufactured by Vestas, GE, and Siemens Gamesa. The tender was finalised in 2019, and the first gearboxes were sent to Vestas for repair in early 2020.

Pattern Energy: main component replacements in North America

Leveraging our substantial presence in North America, we have been able to ensure high-quality repairs on short notice for customers who usually perform maintenance on their own turbines. In the past year, we have provided numerous gearbox, main shaft and generator exchanges in the US and Canada for our valued customer Pattern Energy. With timely execution, Vestas has performed the exchanges and ensured turbines are up and running within an average of only 13 days after notification – thereby maximising energy production and minimising workload for service site staff.

Up-tower repair on Gamesa turbine in China

In late 2019, one of the largest energy providers in China needed support for up-tower repair of an intermediate gearbox shaft on a Gamesa G80-2 MW turbine. The customer normally performs in-house maintenance for its assets but were looking for an external partner to provide high-quality, full-scope repair service within a short, guaranteed timeframe. Although several global and local suppliers had the capabilities for the job, Vestas was awarded the task. Our ability to provide the right parts and tools, successful track record with gearbox exchanges in Gamesa turbines, and highly-skilled service technicians trained to execute within the agreed-upon deadlines were key differentiators for the customer.
