Engineering Students from India, The Dominican Republic and China win big at Vestas’ Winnovation Case Challenge 2012
Three engineering students’ solution to enhance product quality while driving down costs won them the grand prize at Vestas’ annual case challenge, Winnovation 2012.
Winnovation is a global competition for Master’s degree engineering students hosted by Vestas, the world leader in wind energy solutions. Participants were invited to tackle real wind energy industry challenges in the areas of quality excellence within product development, supply chain management and production. Of the hundreds of applicants from more than 40 countries, 27 finalists were selected based on the innovation and viability of their solutions and were flown to Aarhus, Denmark, for two days of case challenges and team building from February 2-3, 2012
“Winnovation gives Vestas the opportunity to meet talented engineering students from around the world and inform them about the opportunities at Vestas while also learning from them and their ideas for improvements in the wind energy industry. The students get a deeper look inside Vestas and learn how they can apply the knowledge and skills they are gaining from their studies to our innovative company and product,” says Merete Sandager Thomsen, Employer Branding Advisor for Vestas and Winnovation organizer.
The grand prize was a travel voucher for 20,000DKK (approx. 2,700 EUR) for each of the 3 students on the winning team by Pratima Rangarajan, SVP of Global Research & Innovation.
The winners were:
• Hu Jian, Xi'an Jiaotong University, China
• Carlos Alberto Peña Sánchez, University of North Texas, USA
• Vivek Radhakrishnan, MIT Zaragoza Program at Zaragoza Logistics Center, Spain
