At Vestas, we make keeping the weight of our turbines down a very high priority. The heavier a turbine is, the higher the cost of production, materials, transport and installation, which is why Vestas places a very high priority on keeping the weight of our turbines down. Global experience has shown that this applies regardless of the market.

It takes only two to three hours for the V90-3.0 MW to supply the average European family with electricity for an entire year.
The V90-3.0 MW showcases how our engineers have worked to minimise costs throughout the extent of the turbine’s design lifetime. Weight reductions have been achieved by using new materials such as lightweight carbon fibre in blades, strengthening the tower with a stronger type of steel, and by using magnets that reduce the overall amount of steel required. With the development of the V90, Vestas has clearly set new standards for efficiency. The tower design concept has since been implemented in the 2.0 MW turbine class. The blade design is also used in the V90-2.0 MW turbine.
