E.ON to power 245.000 homes with V112-3.0MW offshore turbines

E.ON has ordered 89 Vestas’ V112-3.0MW, for two of its upcoming projects, which shows testimony to the company’s belief in the quality and reliability of Vestas V112 offshore turbines.

E.ON’s strong commitment to the offshore renewable wind industry is now cemented in the announcement of a €2 billion investment program in three offshore wind farms. The 89 turbines, for the two projects that Vestas Offshore is to install and service, will find their new homes at the Karehamn wind farm in the Swedish waters and at the Humber Gateway wind farm in the North Sea.

“At both sites E.ON needed a turbine designed for the high wind speeds and medium turbulence.” Says Jonny Stokes, Communication Manager at E.ON and ads “Together these two wind farms will power more than 245.000 homes in Europe.”

Reaching Co2 targets for Europe

Europe has ambitious targets for the renewable offshore industry and helping Europe reach these targets is one of the biggest utility companies: E.ON. In the last ten years E.ON has developed and constructed 6 offshore wind farms and worked closely with Vestas on Robin Rigg and Scroby Sands. Both wind farms excel in reliable performance, so today they harness the strong winds of the North and Irish seas by means proactive operations and maintenance in partnership with Vestas Offshore.

“E.ON is keen to foster competition in the offshore market to help drive down costs in the industry, and thus, aims to bring down the cost of our offshore wind projects by 40% by 2015.  We have worked closely with Vestas in the past and investing in the V112 shows our belief in Vestas` turbines and offshore services. These two strengths in Vestas offerings will ensure that we have excellent availability at the Karehamn wind farm and at the Humber Gateway wind farm – just like we have seen at our other sites like Robin Rigg.” Jonny describes in detail.
