An option is an extra feature that can be added to the turbine to suit a project’s specific needs. By adding options to the standard turbine, we can enhance the performance of the wind power project – and the business case certainty of the investment. Here are some of our options, although their availability will differ from country to country and from turbine to turbine.
The Vestas Shadow Detection System (VSDS) is an optional system, integrated to the control system in the turbine, which will stop the turbine in order to avoid shadow flickering over residential areas near a wind park site.
The Yaw Power Back Up (YPB) system enables the turbine to yaw during high wind speeds up to 70 m/s. The functionality consists of a special operational mode to ensure continuous yawing for turbines in areas where the risk of extreme wind events exist. Connection of an external power back up system to power the yaw system during grid outage is optional.
Increased Cut-In Wind Speed: Is a system intended to prevent bats/birds blade strikes. The system controls the turbine operational cut-in wind speed based on predefined parameters around the turbine, which includes bats/birds migration patterns.
A smoke alarm is fitted inside the nacelle for added safety.
Some authorities stipulate that wind turbines must be fitted with aviation lights. We provide different solutions to fulfil local requirements and standards such as ICAO and FAA.
Aviation markings on blades and towers
On some sites there is a requirement for aviation marking on blades and/or towers. We provide them with the required number, width and colour of stripes.
Low temperature range
As well as the standard operational temperature range of -20°C to 40°C, we can give you the option of operating the turbine in temperatures as low as -30°C (range -30 to 40°C), an ideal option for arctic environments.
Vibration condition monitoring system (CMS)
This vibration condition monitoring system (CMS) analyses how your wind turbine is performing via a series of sensors. You’ll know early on if something isn’t performing as expected, and you can service and maintain the wind turbine before a problem becomes crucial and causes prolonged down time. That way you’ll reduce unscheduled maintenance, improve availability, reduce repair costs, plan repair logistics more efficiently, and add value over the long-term.
Obstacle Collision Avoidance System (OCAS)
Is a radar based system, which switches the aviation lights on the turbine only when aircraft are approaching the turbines. This system addresses community concerns about light pollution and aviation concerns about safety by using highly innovative and proprietary radar technology to detect approaching aircraft and immediately turns on the turbine aviation lights as a visual warning.
