At a time of energy and climate crisis, the world needs to move to sources of low-carbon energy. The wind industry currently offers the best way to produce CO2-free electricity that is increasingly competitive, independent, currently available and rapidly deployable, producing immediate emissions reductions, potentially millions of jobs, and economic growth. 2009 will be a crucial year for the fight against climate change. Decision makers from all over the world will meet at COP15 in Copenhagen in December to discuss the post-2012 climate change agreement.
The Global Wind Day is an awareness campaign for the promotion of wind energy worldwide. The message is global: wind power works – it tackles climate change, it improves energy dependence on fossil fuels, and it is an intelligent investment. On 15 June 2009, thousands of public events will be organized simultaneously, taking place in 25 countries. Participating in the events enables everyone to learn about modern energy, and join the wind industry in asking decision makers from around the world to endorse new commitments and approve proper legal frameworks that will enable a large-scale development of wind power.
Join the global campaign arranged by the Global Wind Energy Council: "Wind power works... Pass it on".
