Introducing the Vestas Blades factory
The Windsor office is located in beautiful Colorado, the State that has more sunny days than both Hawaii and Florida. Windsor is a small town of about 18,000 people located near bigger cities such as Fort Collins and Greeley. Two industries that played a major role in the growth of Windsor are the irrigation and railroad industries. The railroad aspect of Windsor was one of the factors that led Vestas to choose Windsor as a location for Vestas Blades! Vestas Blades in Windsor employ approximately 650 people in the facility in both hourly paid and salaried positions.
A little history
Vestas Blades in Windsor originally started construction in mid-2007 with a construction ground breaking celebration on the 14th of June 2007. The facility has gone through many changes, most notably, doubling in size from a 200,000 square foot factory to a 400,000 square foot factory. This factory was also the first manufacturing facility in the United States for Vestas Wind Systems A/S. On the 22nd of May 2008, a scale F3 tornado went through Windsor. Fortunately, the Blades factory was not hit by the tornado, but the power was out for days as the town tried to re-build. Vestas had a leased building for training and recruiting, which was hit by the tornado. The leased building suffered damages and the recruiting operations had to be moved to a temporary location. With great relief, no employees or partners of Vestas were injured in the tornado.
Departments
Our location in Windsor is a manufacturing facility with several different production departments. Production covers a large scale of different areas including construction of the exterior portion of the blade, assembly of the internal blade parts, as well as finishing and painting the blade. The production departments are supported by the following departments: People & Culture, Finance & Controlling, Factory Logistics, Process Excellence, Production Quality, and Production Engineering.

Vestas Blades in Windsor has worked with many local businesses to promote an “Employee Discount” program. Several different companies have taken advantage of the program and will offer Vestas employees discounts on products and services, if a Vestas employee can display proof of employment at Vestas. An example of some of the products and services are (but not limited to): Restaurants, personal care, banks, wireless providers, and various retail establishments.
Sights and surroundings
The factory is only a few miles from historic downtown Windsor. Windsor hosts several shops, restaurants, and historic Colorado landmarks. Just down the road from Vestas Blades is Windsor Park, which is a nice place for family gatherings, employee picnics, and many other fun activities! Windsor is North of Denver, approximately 1 hour drive. Windsor is surrounded by cities with a strong focus on education. CSU (Colorado State University) in Fort Collins and UNC (University Of Northern Colorado) in Greeley which both bring a diverse and broad range of studies and student population to our wonderful area. A portion of the education in the area is focused on renewable energy which is a perfect fit for what Vestas has to offer!
