A little history
The history for this location starts in the 13th century. At that time, Guldsmedshyttan specialized in rock. In the 14th century, Swedish King Gustav Vasa started a foundry for iron canons. In 1868, the company Guldsmedshytte Bruk AB was founded, and in 1957 the company was sold to Grängesbergsbolaget. Between1960-1962, big investments went into a new kokill (cooling iron to create pig iron) foundry. In 1970, Guldsmedshytte Bruk AB was sold to Sandviken Järnverk AB. In 2001, Sandvik sold Guldsmedshytte Bruk AB to Windcast Group A/S and the first wind turbine casts were produced. In 2003, Vestas Wind Systems A/S took over Windcast Group A/S.
