Introducing the Vestas Nacelles Viveiro office
Vestas Nacelles Viveiro is located in Viveiro, Spain in the province of Lugo, Galicia, in the northeast part of the Iberian Peninsula. Viveiro has a population of 20,000, which triples in the touristic summer months. The Vivero beaches span a length of 7 km. The main airports are A Coruña (120 km away), Santiago de Compostela (153 km) and Vigo (233 km).
Vestas Nacelles Viveiro is a production facility where the V82 – 1.65 MW nacelles are assembled. The factory is undergoing some changes to make it ready for generator production. At the moment, there are approximately 135 employees working here.
A little history
In 1998, Neg Micon started activity in the Chavín factory, assembling nacelles, rotors and controllers. In 2004, it became part of Vestas Nacelles, for the V82 assembly.
Over the past 10 years, the Viveiro plant has been assembling nacelles for wind power projects all over the World, including projects in Australia, Canada, Europe, the Philippines, and the USA. Since it was established in 1998, the number of employees has risen from 30 to 140. The factory stretches over an area of around 3,000 square meters, but it is located on a piece of land that is 21,000 square meters, so there is room for growth.
The transformation of the factory is well on its way for producing generators. According to plans for the first quarter of 2010, the factory will produce 2 MW generators that will be used for the V90 turbines.

What’s it like to work here
Vestas is one of the most important companies in Viveiro. The local area is not very industrialized yet, so the job opportunities are few. Therefore, the 137 jobs opportunities that Vestas has created are very important to this area. It isn’t much of an exaggeration to say that everyone knows each other at the factory because of the size. The work atmosphere here is good, and the professional relationships are strong.
The plan for producing generators at Viveiro is something everyone is enthusiastic about and is looking forward to because it means facility expansion and more growth for job opportunities.
Local benefits
Our employees have social benefits such as private medical insurance, transport bonuses, and childcare subsidies.
Sights and surroundings
Viveiro is loved by tourists thanks to its location on the Cantabrian Sea, the artistic heritage, and the natural surroundings. It is the most significant city in the A Mariña region. It dates back to Roman and Celtic times; however, it really grew in the 12th and 13th centuries. Visitors can admire the remains of the medieval wall, which defended the city from pirate attacks in the 16th century. Three of the original wall doors remain upright: the door of Valado; the door of Vila; and the door of Carlos V with its sculpted imperial arms of the monarch, which is the emblem for Viveiro.
Among the many tourists’ interests are the Holy Week processions. Outside the old wall area is Saint Francis church, built in the 14th century and part of the convent built by Franciscan priests in the 13th century.
Other than monuments, what attracts visitors to Viveiro is the natural surrounding with the city’s open spaces, the beaches, and the marina.
