Introducing the office
Vestas Blades Deutschland is located in Lauchhammer in the “energy-region” of Lusatia north of Dresden. There are approximately 630 employees at this location, who are responsible for manufacturing Vestas wind turbine blades for the global market. Since 2011 the series production of the new 55 meter blades for the V112-3.0 MW is located here. In 2012 Vestas Lauchhammer is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
A little history
Lauchhammer used to be known for coal mining and energy production, but the coal industry in this area collapsed after the fall of the Berlin wall. Nevertheless, many renewable energy companies working on biomass, biogas, and solar energy settled here; and the shift from tradition forms of energy to modern energy characterise the region now.
When Vestas opened the Blades factory in 2002, it got a lot of political attention because we were one of the forerunners focusing on modern sustainable energy. Strong, local relationships have been established to support future and further development of the area.
Originally, this site was responsible for manufacturing 39 m blades. 2004 to 2009 we produced 44 m blades for the V90 platform. In 2010 the factory converted to 55m blades with a completely new and advanced production layout for the V112-3.0 MW turbine.

Local benefits
Lauchhammer is a small town with approximately 20,000 inhabitants. So, you can easily build relationships with colleagues outside of work by coming to different Vestas sponsored events, or heading out to the local Irish pub or Music Club.
If you like biking, you’ll be in good company at Vestas Lauchhammer; in the summer, we organize bike tours in the surrounding areas. We are also family-oriented; there is a yearly, outdoor, family picnic on the factory premises.
Sights and surroundings
Lauchhammer is favourably located. Dresden is only 50 km away and welcomes you with stunning historical architecture. You can visit the “Semperoper” or the “Church of Our Lady.” You can enjoy the nightlife, cafes, restaurants, and shopping. There is excellent hiking in the “Saxon Switzerland” nearby. And a two hours’ drive takes you to Berlin, a city offering everything metropolitan and is rich with historical sightseeing.
The region of Lusatia has experienced interesting developments. The former open, coal-mining areas with amazing, moonlike landscapes have been converted into recreational areas. There is everything from motocross to leisure activities near one of the local lakes, meadows, or forests.
There is also good cycling and swimming facilities close by in Senftenberg, which is also the home of a small, but award-winning, local theatre.
