Introducing the Austrian office
The Schwechat office is located near the airport and the office was primarily chosen because of this proximity to the airport. A lot of colleagues, customers and suppliers from Eastern Europe come to the Schwechat office weekly for meetings and negotiations, so for them it is really comfortable to drive only 10 minutes from the airport to the office. The city of Vienna isn’t far away either, only about 20 minutes by train.
Schwechat itself is a small city where you can live in a quiet neighbourhood, enjoying the beautiful evenings of Austria. But as Vienna isn’t far away, there are a lot of things to do and sights to visit when you are new to the capital. So the Austrian office is charming to all kind of new employees.
At present 114 Vestas employees are working at this location. The office was renovated before we all moved in, so everything is new and really nice looking.
A little history
Vestas Österreich was established in 2005. The first office here was opened because the Austrian market grew so fast at the time. A lot of turbines where sold in and around Austria so it made good sense to establish a Sales and Service department locally. These were the only two departments in the beginning, but only one year later all the other departments moved in with one or two representatives. Within the last years, Vestas Austria has grown so rapidly that we moved into the new location in Schwechat in November 2007. We celebrated the opening of the new office with cake for everyone and gave a tour to our friends and families. The office has continued to grow very fast since then – about 20 employees in the beginning and today 114 people work here.

What’s it like to work here
The Vestas Schwechat location is not only central for the Austrian Market but also forms a gateway to the Eastern European countries and markets. This influences the truly intercultural atmosphere at the office and makes daily work dynamic. Currently 14 different nationalities work here, and there are frequent visits from other Vestas colleagues e.g. from Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Germany.

Sights and surroundings
Being located close to the capital of Austria, local employees can enjoy all that Vienna has to offer.
The Mercer Study 2010 has chosen Vienna as the world’s number one most lovable city. More than half of the metropolitan area is made up of green spaces. 280 imperial parks and gardens enrich the cityscape, and there is much to see: From the Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral to the Imperial Palace to the Art Nouveau splendour of the Secession as well as the magnificent baroque palace Schönbrunn and the Museum of Fine Arts or modern architecture at the Museums Quartier.
