Introducing our Vestas Australia office
Vestas’ Melbourne office is the base for the Australia and New Zealand Region. It is located centrally in the city, close to the central business district and opposite the famous Botanical Gardens and Shrine of Remembrance. Melbourne is a striving business precinct, home to many large international companies. The Melbourne Office has a strong diverse workforce due to the various cultures and differing ages represented among the staff. There are presently 94 employees working in the office. Vestas shares the building with a number of other companies, having exclusive access to the 4th floor.
A little history
Vestas started up in Australia in 2001 and moved into the Melbourne office in 2004 after the previous office, down the road, was unable to accommodate the ever increasing number of staff. Since its establishment, it has undergone a number of changes including the move towards an open plan office to facilitate cross functional communication. An operations room to monitor turbine performance using state-of-the-art technology has also been established in recent years.
There are several reasons why Melbourne was chosen to house the Vestas Australia and New Zealand business; Firstly, Melbourne places us close to our key customers, who are also based in Melbourne. Secondly, Melbourne is close to strong market potential that exists in this part of the world. Finally, the Melbourne office is easily accessible by public transport including trains and trams.

What’s it like to work here
The glass around the perimeter of the building means that there is an abundance of natural light especially in the afternoon when the sun shines through. We have a brilliant catering service in the office for meetings, which we all benefit from. Also the office is located in beautiful surroundings near a park, which gives staff the possibility to go for a stroll if they need a small break or some fresh air to clear their thoughts.
The open plan office makes it possible to quickly see who is in the office and to communicate between functions. We are really happy with the open plan office and are certain that it helps to create a good office atmosphere. The office has a great international atmosphere due to the many different cultures represented here. Furthermore, the tone among Vestas Australia’s employees is very open, informal and friendly.
Local benefits
The location of the office is definitely a big plus. The large break-out area where the staff can relax and eat their lunch overlooks the beautiful Botanical Gardens on one side of the room and a large fish tank on the other. We always gather each Friday for either morning tea or afternoon drinks, alternating each week, and mingle, talk and enjoy a feast on the catering. Besides the Friday gatherings, we have Lunch and Learn sessions, where employees receive free lunch while a colleague presents something from his/her area of work. Additionally, we also have a rewards programme which recognizes employees who in some way have done an extraordinary good job, and an employee referral programme where employees receive a bonus if he/she recommends a person who is successful in getting a job here.
Our local benefits also include free fruit, discount on health insurance and banking products, salary packaging and flexible working hours.
In addition, we also have a corporate membership of Melbourne Bike Share which gives all employees access to a bike anytime during a working week.
Sights and surroundings
Several sights are located close to the Melbourne office. Four of these are the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens which extends over 36 hectares and displays 50,000 plants; Albert Park and a few miles of surrounding commuter roads which once a year house the Australian Grand Prix; Victoria Army Barracks – an impressive 19th century government building which was originally built as accommodation for British Imperial Garrison troops, and The Shrine of Remembrance which is the state Victoria’s memorial to those who served and those who died in armed conflicts and peacekeeping duties throughout Australian history.
