Project Manager, Process Excellence (PEX), Vestas Blades, Denmark
My role
In my department we help organise and facilitate Lean improvements within production and administration functions in Vestas Blades. This is mainly done by arranging cross-functional and cross-factory workshops to improve knowledge sharing and establish standards based on best practices throughout the organisation. In addition, we are building up a baseline of Lean knowledge in all levels of the organization through tailored training courses. It is great being a part of continuously improving the organization in an ever-changing environment.
My everyday work life
My everyday work life is characterised by daily contact to people at all levels in the organization, and across many different subject areas in an effort to coordinate and organize on-going and future activities. The atmosphere at Vestas is always welcoming and down-to-earth. Being surrounded by clever helpful people is inspiring, and no level of hierarchy is off limits as long as your questions are relevant.
My path in Vestas
I started out as a project manager in GroupIT in Vestas’ Headquarter. Here, I gained my first experience within project management. I continued as an IT project manager in my 2nd rotation, with new ground under my feet. I was in Beijing, facing interesting cultural challenges and stepping up to bigger tasks professionally. During this job I gained insight into Lean and applied this to optimising the logistics between the 5 IT departments in China. Lean theory caught my attention, and for my 3rd rotation I expanded my knowledge in this area, by joining the Process Excellence team in the Blades Production Unit in Denmark. It’s a small department responsible for Lean optimization throughout the 7 Blades factories and the Blades Headquarter.
With every new position came new challenges, new knowledge and new inspiring people. The development I have been through in the Graduate programme has changed me and brought me to where I am now, and I wouldn’t want to be any other place.
My opportunities
Working at Vestas means working in an ever changing-environment. And with every change comes new challenges and new opportunities for employees ready to step up to the task. For this reason, I see myself working at Vestas for many years to come. Going on developing my own professional skills while helping to develop Vestas as the world’s leading wind turbine producer is exciting.
My life
My main passion in life is travelling and experiencing other cultures, preferably for longer periods of time, to really get to know and understand the local vibe. This fits very well with Vestas! During the Graduate programme I had the chance to live in China for 8 months. Now, even though I live in Denmark, I spend an average of 12 weeks a year at different Vestas locations around the world, in China, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the US. When I’m in Denmark, I try to find time for rock climbing or horseback riding with friends.
