Giorgio, former Vestas Graduate

Project Manager in Emerging Segments, Group Marketing & Customer Insight, Denmark

My role

I am currently working as a Project Manager in the Marketing department at Vestas Headquarters. My department, called Emerging Segments, is responsible for the global business development of new market segments. I feel lucky because I have the opportunity in my current job to work on some of the most fascinating initiatives undertaken by our Global Marketing organization. For instance, we have recently contributed to the establishment of the WindMade organization to offer sustainable corporations around the world a platform to communicate wind energy investments to consumers.

My everyday work life

Working at Vestas makes me feel part of an ever-changing world. The wind energy market is a fast growing market and things are changing very quickly, so we always need to be flexible, willing and ready to change. For this reason, life here is quite dynamic and I always find the atmosphere in our offices very inspiring. Working in this environment, with colleagues that are passionate about their job is really what makes me run the extra mile. Of course this also makes my job very demanding and sometime stressful. Very often both during the Graduate Programme and in my everyday work, I find myself in challenging situations I had not experienced before, and I need to react fast and learn quickly how to solve the new issues I come across.

My path in Vestas

I started at Vestas soon after completing my master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and my first assignment was as a Wind&Site engineer in Denmark. I worked on the analysis of site layouts and wind data for wind farms at a very early sales stage in Northern Europe. It was a very exciting experience and I acquired a lot of knowledge about wind projects development. My second assignment was in the Sales department of Vestas Italy, where my main responsibility was the direct support of sales for the entire Italian customer portfolio. Here I developed an understanding of our customers in the most diverse market segments, which represents a very precious knowledge that I can apply in several occasions today in my everyday work. My last module was in Beijing, China, where I had the opportunity to work in the Construction department, heading a newly formed program management function to develop and deploy project management tools and methodologies. My time in China has been one of the most interesting and exciting experiences in my life both from a professional and from a personal point of view. After finishing the Graduate Programme, I was offered a position at Vestas Headquarters, where I am currently working as a Project Manager.

My opportunities

The Vestas Graduate Programme represented an incredible chance for me to have a wide-ranging experience in different functions of the organization and to work in different geographical locations. The knowledge acquired, the network built and the skills developed during this incredible journey were essential elements to fast-tracking my career and prepare me in the best way possible to my current role. But this is just the beginning. Now a lot of opportunities are ahead of me, and I am looking forward to the next challenge. Having the possibility of shaping my future is what keeps me motivated and if I look at my past career path I can definitely say that this possibility was there. My experience at Vestas is far beyond what I expected when I was a university student. I didn’t know working life could be so exciting and I couldn’t imagine how many interesting projects I would work on and how many people around the world I would meet.

My life

My job is a demanding job and I am very passionate about it, but I also find time to enjoy life outside of work! I like to travel, see new places, meet new people, taste new food, cook pasta for my friends, take pictures and last but not least I always find the opportunity to go diving everywhere. I also have a passion for classical music, which I have studied for many years and now it’s just a natural part of my life, so I take some time every day to cultivate this passion as well.
