Winnovation 2011 - Structure

A few key aspects of the competition have been outlined below. We recommend that all applicants familiarize themselves with it.

Objective of the Challenge

The objective of the Winnovation case competition is to give master level engineering students the opportunity to understand, work with and develop some of the issues pertinent to Vestas to fulfill our Triple15 targets and stay ahead on the global wind energy market. The competition also aim to bring together some of the brightest young engineering minds in the world to share knowledge, ideas and career aspirations, while getting to know Vestas and create an international network.

Choosing case area

For the Winnovation 2012, we have an overall focus on Quality in Vestas and aim to challenge the participants within different areas that influence on the quality of the end product that our customers experience. Therefore we offer 3 different aspects of Quality, each of which is based on one of the vital areas within our business, now and in the future, that the participants can offer their ideas and solutions to. Participants are required to choose one aspect of the overall Quality case in the registration process and submit their solution subsequently.

Teams to compete with their own track

Each applicant must submit a preliminary case solution for the first round of evaluation, by the 18th of November. All applicants will be evaluated only against others that have submitted a solution within the same area in the Quality case. Therefore, the number of participants selected for the finale will be equally distributed amongst all the areas.
So among all applications, Vestas judges will select:
• 10 participants within Product Development
• 10 participants within Quality in Production
• 10 participants within Supply Chain Management

Going to Denmark

Please note that Vestas will fly out the 30 selected students to our Technology R&D Centre in Aarhus, Denmark for the finale days and will bear all airfare and accommodation expenses.

Grand Finale

30 students will be gathered on the 1st of February in Aarhus Denmark for a brief introduction and “ice-breaking” activties before the competition starts for real.
On the first day of Winnovation, the 2nd of February, the participants will be presented with a case combining the different areas of the competition, and the participants will be divided into groups of 3 students - each representing one of the areas - working together to solve this case. Evaluating the solutions, the Vestas judges will select 3 teams for the finale.
A finale combination-case will be presented for the finalist teams on Friday. The 3 finalist teams will present their case solutions in front of the panel of Vestas judges, including our Honorary Judge, the President of Vestas Technology R&D, Finn Strøm Madsen. The winning team will be awarded with a trip around the world.
