Nick Brod, Business Strategy Consultant:
”If human beings are to survive and our society is to continue to thrive, we can’t just ignore our growing consumption of energy. Modern energy is the only solution for this dual challenge.”
Nick is part of the Vestas Graduate Programme. The two-year programme includes working for three different business units in, for example, the U.S.A, China, India, Singapore, Australia, Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany, England and Denmark. In each of the three modules, Nick has participated in challenging projects with colleagues from all over the world. He is also part of a global network of skilled and talented people.
The strategy is clear: No. 1 in Modern Energy
”I’m part of the strategy team that focuses especially on customer excellence. For me, it’s mainly about ensuring that Vestas maintains and expands its leading position in the wind power market. It’s really a challenge to keep on top of what happens throughout Vestas – and to help build a business where the thoughts and actions of every single employee contribute to Vestas being No. 1 in Modern Energy.”
From MBA to modern energy
”I spent nine years as a project manager in the new media industry. Later, I earned an MBA at Yale specialising in strategy and from there worked with investment strategies in the energy industry as a springboard to the wind industry and to Vestas. I’m getting close to finishing Vestas' Graduate Programme and am able to look back at an incredible two years where I was, for example, a project manager in Vestas Americas and responsible for sales in the Vestas Pacific. I can’t imagine another industry or company where I would get the same challenges and opportunities that I have Vestas.”
Good global connections
”My travels and jobs in many different counties together with my MBA have given me quite a solid network. For me, being able to take advantage of my connections both in and outside Vestas is invaluable. Imagine being able to call customers in Australia, Vice Presidents in Denmark, bankers in London, consultants in New York, factory owners in China and technicians in New Zealand! I see myself as a global citizen who is always open to new impressions – and someone who is driven by the goal of putting modern energy on even more agendas around the world. That’s what characterises the employee values that we’ve drawn up at Vestas, which luckily suits me and my career well.”
If your heart’s in it, success will follow
”My own philosophy is that you have the greatest opportunities for well-being and success if you embrace what you do whole heartedly. So, if you also believe in wind power as a clean sustainable supplement to oil and gas, then I would recommend that you send in an application.”
