Matthias, Vestas Graduate

My role:

Hi! My name is Matthias. I joined the Graduate Programme in 2007 as a Service Excellence Graduate and get to learn about the Vestas business through three different business units.

My career path:

I have a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering so I like technical issues. But I also like managerial challenges. The Graduate Programme has been the perfect choice for me, as it gives me the opportunity to work with technical as well as managerial tasks. My first rotation gave me knowledge that I use everyday. The three rotations let you explore the company from three different angles, which means that in the end you’re a more attractive and capable employee. Vestas is growing and the industry competition is fierce, so the pace is fast. The eight-month rotations help get you up to speed.

My network:

Vestas has given me an international network – and it’s growing every day. The people working for Vestas are friendly and incredibly helpful. You can call anybody from around the world and ask for help - if they can’t help you themselves, they’ll put you in contact with the person who can. I’m always amazed at how quickly my connections lead me to the information I need.

My Vestas:

Even though I enjoy my current rotation, I’m already itching for my next adventure - my new projects and a new location. Training Camps are also a chance to travel. They are hard work – with all the presentations, case studies and personal development – but these activities also give me opportunities for networking in a more relaxed atmosphere.

My life:

I try to keep a good mix between exercise, creativity and relaxation. I like to take a shot at various kinds of sports, grab my guitar for a short exploration of the mysterious world of jazz, or enjoy a glass of wine and a terrific meal in good company. My graduate friends will help me keep the balance right: if I had too much of that Swedish chocolate cake again, somebody will gladly give me a hand burning off those extra calories by sending my lazy behind up and down the squash court! Or why not even try something new like Wakeboarding on the Ringkøbing Fjord?
