Lars Christian, Vice President, Wind & Site Competence Centre

My role

As Vice President of Wind and Site Competence Centre, my main focus is to nurture and grow knowledge as well as enable an environment that fosters new ideas. I ensure that relevant knowledge from my colleagues is used in our products wherever they fit. My role is also to make sure that the capabilities and products from our department are known – internally as well as externally. I am responsible for ensuring a mutual technical level of understanding at Vestas through training and further education of new technology areas .Besides this, I also spend time on creating an engaged workspace for wind professionals who are interested in creating a work environment that allows for innovation, daily operations and creativity.

My career path

After having spent my first years in a small non governmental institute dealing with all sorts of renewable energy I joined NEG Micon in 2000. My interest in the future of wind took me towards the area of wind and site engineering where I started out in 2000 and was appointed manager a year later. My department grew in the following years and we were appointed Wind & Site competence Centre for Vestas after the merger between Vestas and NEG Micon in late 2003. I became Vice President in 2007 and am still deepening my knowledge here. Yet what has given flavour to the path underway is the ability to constantly seek out new possibilities within the area of wind power, and I therefore also reached an interest in leadership and strategy.

My network

My ability to connect to a diverse network of professionals and good colleagues all around the world is crucial to my work. My network consists of friends, old classmates, existing and former colleagues, customers, suppliers and scientists. I am constantly enlarging my network through the educational programmes I am in and continue to create relations with new colleagues. I also keep looking to expand my network outside Vestas by meeting up with people, groups, thinkers, scientist, researchers and others to expand and thereby make my network as complex as possibly. This is part of creating a foundation and an interaction platform for the knowledge that we live by in Wind and Site and at Vestas. I use my network every single day - for knowledge sharing, deepening ideas and facts, feedback and for inspiration, employ people and get problems solved.

My Vestas

To keep seeing where future paths lie, is evident for the work I am part of. I am triggered by the process of finding new ways of combining knowledge, skills and people to make world class products. I see Vestas as a place where there’s a huge possibility to experiment and have fun while doing it. The daily operations and creating a work environment, from my leadership position takes a lot of my time and gives a lot back!

My life

Outside Vestas, my life is centred on my family and my home. Home is where I regain my energy. My wife and kids are the essentials in my life. I have three kids who all want my attention and keeping up a healthy work/life balance is difficult, but important.
I have slowly over the past four years picked up reading of especially leadership- and strategy literature. Besides using my head I also like to use my hands by repairing, rebuilding and driving old motorbikes. That and building and flying remote controlled planes gives me great pleasure. It focuses my thoughts and clears my mind.
